Micromouse and UKMARS

Its been a while since I last posted on my blog! The xylophone player now works pretty well, and I have moved on to other things. Back in 1982(!) along with one of my then colleagues, I tried my hand at the micro mouse competition. We did not devote enough time or energy to this project, and although we entered and constructed a mouse, it never got out of the starting square!

Move on to October 13th 2018 and I was an attendee at the UKMARS event in Hazelmere, High Wycombe, Berkshire. There were drag races, line follower races and the culmination was the micro mouse contest. See here for more details ukmars.org

My friend Bob and I had been thinking about this contest for the best part of five years! We attended the competition which was held at Birmingham university in 2013 and decided we would have a go. Time passed, Birmingham university held more contests, and we progressed very very slowly!
The visit to UKMARS has acted as a catalyst to get us going again, and I have built a mouse. Programming is underway, and Bob is building a maze!! (a BIG undertaking, so hats off to you Bob!)
The photos below were taken back in February this year when we were making plans for a possible visit to Birmingham (which never materialised). There have been a few mods since then, being an additional button on top and a small display to show what mode the mouse is in, and some test features.
